Top Thrill Dragster, Cedar Point

The hype surrounding Top Thrill Dragster is certainly reaching boiling point. We are keeping you up to date with the latest progress being made on site at Cedar Point, Mysterious Things Are Happening At Top Thrill Dragster, Here Is How It Currently Looks! We are also continuing to scour sources for further information on exactly what Cedar Point has planned for this iconic coaster.

There have been numerous rumors floated for Top Thrill Dragster and this most recent one appears somewhat bizarre but could it actually work? Looping Thrills has posted a video on YouTube outlining this rumor.

In summary, the rumor is that Cedar Point has plans to put in a new top hat that could reach the record breaking height of 500ft and then use the existing top hat to form a massive spike reaching up to 400ft.

What is proposed is that the coaster would begin launching and reach half way up the new 500ft top hat to then roll back down, launching backwards up a 400ft vertical spike. The coaster would then speed forward over the 500ft top hat and then roll back into the station.

All talks so far have pointed towards Top Thrill Dragster getting a new LSM launch to replace the problematic hydraulic one. We have also been expecting a rear spike which had been rumored to break the 500ft mark but this has then been questioned in recent months. There has been a continued debate whether Intamin or Zamperla will take on the project and there has still not been confirmation on this. A new theme and color scheme is also expected.

What we do know is that Cedar Point is promising something that has never been done before and although unlikely, this rumor of a new top hat reaching 500ft with the existing top hat being used to form the basis for a 400ft rear spike would definitely be something that has never been seen or done before!

Now to reiterate, this is purely a rumor and speculation based on the current work being done and Cedar Point has made no comment at all regarding it. As we see work continuing on site over the coming weeks and months we should begin to get confirmation of exactly what Cedar Point is planning for this iconic coaster.

Will we see a new top hat? Will we see a 500ft top hat or rear spike? Will we see a rear spike at all? Will it be Intamin or Zamperla? With so many possibilities it is just so exciting to see this project developing. Do you want to see a new 500ft top hat with a 400ft rear spike created from the existing top hat? Let us know your thoughts by leaving us a comment below or on our Facebook page.

Thanks for posting my video. I really appreciate the well written article you wrote about this topic! This is an awesome website!

Thanks for your kind comment. We are so excited to see what Cedar Point has planned for Top Thrill Dragster and really liked your video, thank you for posting it!

Even though it would be interesting & exciting, I think as the roller coasters inch closer to the maximum, (height, velocity, etc, it opens the flood gates for all kinds of possible dangers & problems.
