UPDATE October 15 - There are now reports online that a notice of commencement has been filed for Tiana's Bayou Adventure at Disney's Magic Kingdom. This will be exciting news for some Disney fans but not for others due to the continuing contentious nature of this extensive reimagining of the iconic Splash Mountain attraction. With news of this notice of commencement we are expecting to hear a closing date for Splash Mountain very soon.
Disney has filed a permit to begin construction on Bayou Adventure in Walt Disney World. It is listed as “Project CY1899”. The contractor Disney has chosen is Balfour Beatty Construction. Permit expires June 30, 2024 (All info coming from WDWMAGIC) #SplashMountain #Disneyland pic.twitter.com/Mc6cYp44OB— SplashMountainArchives (@SplashMtn1989) October 14, 2022
We thought Disney may announce a confirmed closing date for Splash Mountain at both The Magic Kingdom and Disneyland Park at the D23 Expo at the beginning of September but that did not happen and we are still in the dark. In our recent poll January 2023 came out on top as the most likely choice of when Disney will close Splash Mountain. We will update you as soon as a closing date is announced and in the meanwhile if you are hoping to get a last ride on Splash Mountain we suggest you do it sooner rather than later.
October 2 - The question majority of Disney fans still need answering is when the iconic Splash Mountain will close at Disney's Magic Kingdom and Disneyland Park? Well, after our recent poll where we asked you what you think, we are not expecting there to be much time left for guests to experience this legendary attraction. Here are the results:
- End 2022 - 12%
- Jan 2023 - 33%
- After Spring Break 2023 - 31%
- Summer 2023 - 9%
- Late 2023 - 16%
So, as you can see 33% of voters think Splash Mountain will close in January 2023 which to me seems most likely, as this is when it would normally close for annual maintenance and from recent reports online it appears to be in desperate need of some TLC.
Perhaps surprisingly, 31% think Splash Mountain will close after Spring Break and I totally understand the logic of this, however, if Splash Mountain doesn't close until after Spring Break, that doesn't seem to then give Disney much time to complete the extensive refurbishment into Tiana's Bayou Adventure by the end of 2024.
What we do know for sure is that Disney is going to have to make an official announcement on the date for the closure of Splash Mountain in the near future. Our advice is, if you want to ride Splash Mountain to do it sooner rather than later! We will update you as soon as an official date is announced on our news and Facebook page.
September 14 - This was a question we had hoped would be answered at the recent D23 Expo which took place September 9 - 11 in Anaheim. But unfortunately we are still in the dark when it comes to knowing when our last opportunity will be to ride the iconic Splash Mountain before it closes at both Magic Kingdom and Disneyland Park for its extensive reimagination to Tiana's Bayou Adventure.
What we do know is that the new Tiana's Bayou Adventure is slated to open in late 2024 which leads us to obviously speculate that Splash Mountain will officially close in 2023.
The question is, however, when in 2023? Will Disney keep Splash Mountain open until after the extremely busy Spring Break? Will it last that long in its current state? Or, will Disney make the decision to close Splash Mountain in early 2023? We think the latter is the more likely which will give them over 18 months to complete the extensive reimagining if they were to debut Tiana's Bayou Adventure in time for Fall 2024.

Disney is certainly keeping the closing date for Splash Mountain quiet for now but we will keep you updated as soon as there is an announcement on this. When do you think Splash Mountain will close? Let us know by voting in our poll below or by leaving us a comment on our Facebook page.
