Disney Genie+

UPDATE October 12 - Since Disney debuted the Genie+ Lightning Lane service back in October 2021 there have been a number of updates to try to improve it but Disney has now announced that Genie+ Lightning Lane at Disneyland Resort will now cost more. Rather than $20 per person per day it now costs $25. Now, this certainly won't come as a surprise to most Disney fans that the price is increasing but this is definitely a large increase.

For this $25 per person per day, guests can expect to be able to FastPass 2-3 attractions if choosing thefirst attraction early in the day. At Disneyland Resort, Genie+ Lightning Lane can be purchased as an add-on to a ticket or vacation package via Disneyland.com or authorized travel professionals. It can also be purchased upon entering the theme park on the day of your visit via the Disneyland app, providing there is still availability.

For Genie+ Individual Lightning Lanes the prices vary by date and attraction and can be purchased when at the theme park. For further information head to the official Disneyland website

March 31 - It was back in October 2021 that Disney launched the Genie+ Lightning Lane service and the Individual Lightning Lane service. It has certainly had a mixed reception with many Disney guests not happy.

Okay, considering the Genie+ Lightning Lane replaced the FREE FastPass+ service it was never going to be a system that was going to be greeted with open arms. However, Genie+ definitely seems to pose a major problem for Disney and its guests.

In our recent article, Walt Disney World Has a Major Genie+ Problem. Can It Actually Be Fixed?, we looked at the reasons for the problems along with the ways Disney could try to fix the current issues Genie+ is having. We hope that Disney seriously looks at strategies to make the system better in order to dramatically improve guest experience for everyone which is certainly much needed at Walt Disney World.

It now seems Disney is trying to lower guests expectations of the Genie+ Lightning Lane service which currently costs $15 per person per day at Walt Disney World and $20 per person per day at Disneyland Resort.

The statement below has now appeared on the Genie+ Lightning Lane page on the official Walt Disney World website outlining the number of attractions guests should realistically think they will be able to skip the line for per day:

"Enjoy the Magic You Want with Less Wait – This unique service lets you use our new Lightning Lane entrance at select attractions and experiences at the Walt Disney World theme parks. On average, guests can enter 2 to 3 attractions or experiences per day using the Lightning Lane entrance if the first selection is made early in the day.

Beginning at 7:00 AM on the day of your visit, you’ll have the opportunity to secure your first arrival time."

This clearly clarifies that guests need to book their first attraction early on in the day in order to have the opportunity to be able to enjoy 2 to 3 attractions using the Genie+ Lightning Lane service. Many guests have been left disappointed when slots have run out by mid afternoon meaning they may well have only skipped the line for one attraction.

Hopefully this will lower guests expectations of the Genie+ Lightning Lane service meaning fewer guests will leave Walt Disney World feeling disappointed. We are sceptical, however, that this will help much if at all but at least it is a small step in the right direction. Let's hope many more are on the way!

If you are going to charge money it has to be guaranteed. By the way we go to these parks for fun, enjoyment with family/friends and really to relax from the usual - why do I have to get up 2-4 hours before I want to go to the park for this service - ridiculous...?!?
