Shrek and Donkey, Universal

UPDATE July 14 - It is official, Shrek and Donkey (as well as Fiona at times) are ready for visitors from today at Universal's Islands of Adventure.

They are now located at the former Barney Shop in Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone. This meet and greet has been closed since June 7 in order for Shrek, Donkey and Fiona to be relocated. This will be great news for Shrek fans!

UPDATE July 12 - It looks like the rumor that Shrek and Donkey are moving to the former Barney Shop in Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone was correct as we can now see the iconic S peeping out from behind the walls surrounding this location. Inside Universal, posted the following photos below on twitter. We still don't have confirmation of an exact reopening date for the Shrek and Donkey meet and greet but it looks like we won't have to wait much longer. We will update you when there is further news on this.

UPDATE June 25 - Meet Shrek and Donkey at Universal Studios Florida temporarily closed on June 7 and there are now rumors online that their new home will be in the former Barney Shop in Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone. Planters and blue construction walls have now appeared around the location. Universal hasn't confirmed this location yet as the new home for Meet Shrek and Donkey or indeed a reopening date but it is positive to see that progress is being made. We will keep you posted as soon as further announcements are made.

We are hoping Universal will get this popular meet and greet up and running again as soon as possible for Shrek fans to enjoy. Along with Shrek and Donkey, Fiona is also known to make appearances. Do you think the former Barney Shop in Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone would be a good location for Meet Shrek and Donkey? Let us know in the comments below or on Facebook.

May 23 - The closing of Shrek 4-D at Universal Studios Florida in January was a major blow for many fans. With rumors flying that the Minions are replacing Shrek and with the Universal Classic Monsters Cafe now closed, it has left us to ask the question, what will happen to the character encounter Meet Shrek and Donkey which is currently located next to the former Monsters cafe? Well, we now know that Shrek and Donkey are not leaving, they are just moving home.

It has now been confirmed on the Universal Orlando Resort official website that the Meet Shrek and Donkey character encounter will temporarily close on June 7, in order for them to move home to the current KidZone section of the park.

We are not exactly sure how long this relocation will take and therefore when Shrek and Donkey will be open to having visitors again but we will update you when we know more on this. The Shrek and Donkey character encounter which is often known as Donkey's Photo Finish has been popular in the park and the animatronic Donkey can't fail to make you laugh!

It certainly seems to make sense to move this meet and greet as Shrek 4-D is no more and according to Screamscape, Universal is making the change to collect all DreamWorks Animation themed attractions into the current KidZone area. Universal began this move last year by replacing the A Day In The Park With Barney attraction with the DreamWorks Destination character meet and greet.

The DreamWorks Destination character meet and greet features iconic characters from Madagascar, Trolls, Puss in Boots and Kung Fu Panda. Guests get to dance with them in this interactive experience.
