Genie+, Disney

Everyone knows by now that Genie+ is the new paid for FastPass system at Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort. It has understandably been a controversial addition.

It has now been announced that those guests purchasing a one-day ticket to Walt Disney World will no longer be able to pre-book the $15 Genie+ service prior to their visit through the My Disney Experience App. They will only be able to purchase it on the day of their visit.

Those guests with multi-day tickets will continue to be able to purchase Genie+ through the My Disney Experience App prior to their visit.

Guests have the option to purchase Disney Genie+ Lightning Lane Selections for $15 per person per day at Walt Disney World ($20 per day at Disneyland Resort) which allows you to book Lightning Lanes for a number of attractions at the park and then return at the booked time.

Guests also have the option to purchase Individual Lightning Lane Selections (up to a maximum of two per day), which are separately priced and are available for two of the most sought after rides at each park including:

  • Disney's Magic Kingdom - Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Space Mountain
  • EPCOT - Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Frozen Ever After
  • Disney's Hollywood Studios - Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
  • Disney's Animal Kingdom - Avatar Flight of Passage, Expedition Everest

Disney Genie+ Lightning Lane Selections and Individual Lightning Lane Selections can be purchased separately or together.

Although controversial, uptake for Genie+ has been positive and it was stated in Disney's First Quarter Earnings report for 2022 that "the increase in average per capita ticket revenue was due to attendance mix and the introduction of Genie+ and Lightning Lane."

Reports suggest that approximately 50% of people are opting to pay the $15 per day to upgrade to Genie+ at Walt Disney World and also paying extra for individual Lightning Lanes so they can still experience the much loved FastPass experience albeit now at an extra cost.

Disney is continuing to tweak features of Disney Genie+ and we will keep you up to date with further changes that are made when they are announced.

We informed you at the beginning of February of the change relating to the linking of accounts. Disney added a QR linking code function to the My Disney Experience App which can be used to connect easily with friends and family. After you have opened the QR linking code in My Profile, a friend can simply scan the code and link their account with yours to book Lightning Lane and dining reservations.

Let us know your thoughts on the change for one-day Walt Disney World ticket holders by leaving us a comment below or on our Facebook page.

We just went. Took the fun out of the spontaneity. Not to mention that we had to go from one side of the park to the other just to ge able get on other less popular attractions. And then when we got to one of the attractions, found out it was broken. That was after walking from one side to another. It's just a scramble to get anywhere. We didn't even get to take pictures of the entrances because we were always rushing. We took Disney transportation and went to the stops an hour before parks opened, but waiting for busses also cuts into time. My complaint is that it was just pretty much going on an attraction and then having to go to the other side, so we couldn't enjoy everything in any particular area for a long period of time.

Won't be going back to Disney anytime soon, if ever, due to all the additional charges on top of high ticket prices and extremely high resort prices plus parking fees. To have to pay more to ride a ride with Genie + on top of your rising daily ticket price is BS. Now they are charging to visit a resort for a couple of hours. Bring back " free" Fast Pass ..........
