Festival of the Lion King, Disney

UPDATE (May 11) - we have noticed on the official website that as of June 27 there are currently "no times available" for A Celebration of Festival of the Lion King At Disney's Animal Kingdom. This remains the case for the rest of the days listed on the calendar which as of the time of writing, goes to July 10. Showtimes up until June 27 continue to be on the hour from 10:00AM until 5:00PM apart from 1:00PM each day.

This likely means that a change to the schedule is being agreed from this point. We will keep you up to date on further details as soon as we have them.

January 17 - As of this week we can see on the calendar for A Celebration of Festival of the Lion King at Disney's Animal Kingdom that show times have been reduced on certain days.

The usual timings for this show are 10:00AM, 11:00AM, 12:00PM, 1:00PM, 2:00PM, 3:00PM, 4:00PM and 5:00PM which appears to be what is planned on the calendar for this coming weekend (January 22 and 23).

However, on certain days this week we see a reduced timetable currently displayed on the official page. Tuesday January 18 only has performances at 10:00AM, 11:00AM and 12:00PM and Wednesday January 19 hasn't got a 1:00PM showing.

Celebration of Festival of the Lion King is located in Africa at Disney's Animal Kingdom and reopened in May 2021 after being shuttered due to COVID-19 in March 2020. The show reopened in a modified format which is mindful of health and safety best practices with updated choreography to allow for appropriate physical distancing.

There hasn't been any official announcement as to why there is a reduced schedule for this popular show. There is speculation online that this could be to do with the rising COVID-19 rates and Disney appears to be on the hunt for additional performers to be part of the show to perhaps cover absence due Cast Members self-isolating.

There is currently a post seeking vocalists to play the Leader, Kiume as well as Zawadi, Nakawa and Kibbi. For further information on this opportunity, visit Disney Careers.
