Although the announcement came two weeks ago that face masks are no longer required in most areas of the theme parks and resort for fully vaccinated guests at Walt Disney World, I am still trying to absorb this revelation. Having thought that masks would be here to stay until the end of 2021 it certainly couldn't have been more welcome news for those guests against mask wearing and hoping to head to the parks this Summer.

Even for those guests that aren't fully vaccinated, masks are no longer required in outdoor areas at the resort and are only required in all indoor locations, as well as when entering and throughout all attractions. The only place face coverings will still be required for all guests will be on enclosed Disney transportation, including Disney buses, monorails, and the Disney Skyliner.

Then came the announcement that fireworks will return to both Magic Kingdom and Epcot starting July 1, 2021 with "Enchantment", a brand new nighttime fireworks spectacular show coming soon to the Magic Kingdom for the 50th Anniversary of Walt Disney World

Surely this is a dream come true for so many Disney fans after what seems like a life time of waiting. Shows have also been returning to the parks and it was announced this week that a brand new daytime Disney Kite Tails Show will debut at Disney's Animal Kingdom on October 1 for the start of the 50th Anniversary celebrations. It leaves the parades and character meet and greets as the only other main things that are now missing from the magical Disney experience.

With vaccination rates continuing to rise and COVID-19 health and safety measures being relaxed, surely it is only a matter of time before the parades will also be back at Walt Disney World.

We have had numerous debates regarding mask wearing over the last 18 months and the impact it has had on people's decisions whether to head back to Walt Disney World. This week's Big Debate asks you, Gone Are The Face Masks and Back Are The Fireworks at Walt Disney World - When Are You Going?

So, usually our options are always pretty simple for our debates but sometimes we slip in a couple of extra options to gauge a greater understanding of our readers choices, so to the question, Gone Are The Face Masks and Back Are The Fireworks at Walt Disney World - When Are You Going? Here are your choices:

  • Now, now, now
  • When I am fully vaccinated
  • When the parades come back
  • Waiting for 1st July when fireworks return
  • Waiting for 50th Celebration in October
  • 2022!
  • 2023 or beyond
  • Never - too expensive

I am confident that many Disney fans would have already been back since June 15 and am guessing a massive influx of people will head to the parks once the fireworks are back, starting July 1 at Magic Kingdom and Epcot. With social distancing having been relaxed, it is great that capacity caps appear to have been increased hugely in recent weeks which can be seen in the Disney Park Pass Reservation System availability.
