Though just a few weeks ago Disney was practically going to war with government officials in California in an effort to get Disneyland Resort's theme parks back open, with COVID-19 cases on the rise and talks of potential lockdowns resurfacing, it looks like Disney has paused their efforts to try and get Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure back open, as Disney CFO Christine McCarthy has confirmed that Disneyland Resort theme parks will remain closed through end of the fiscal first quarter in 2021, or at least until January 2021.

Disney CEO Bob Chapek said regarding this development that the company is “extremely disappointed” that the State of California continues to keep Disneyland Resort closed, and did not offer further comment. 

Of course, this does not include the partial reopening of the Buena Vista Street area inside Disney California Adventure, which will will be opening select shopping and dining experiences later this month on November 19. Though there won't be any attractions open and most of the park will still be closed off, Disney has also confirmed that there will be special holiday "happenings" going on at the theme park when it reopens. Though we know that efforts to open Disneyland's theme parks are paused until at least January, it looks likely that Disneyland Resort as well as other theme parks in California will remain shuttered well into 2021, as state guidelines do not allow reopening until COVID-19 cases fall below one per 100,000 in the county where they are located, which is hard to reach in crowded areas of the state like Anaheim and Los Angeles.
