At the end of October, Comcast, Universal theme parks parent company, released their third-quarter financial results. It was not a surprise to hear that the theme park part of their business for this recent quarter was down 80.9% to $311 million and year to date is down 71% to $1.267 billion. 

With attendance capacity still capped at both Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Japan and with Universal Studios Hollywood without a reopening date in sight it seems to be all gloom and doom for Universal. However, Comcast has confirmed that things are actually starting to look up in their theme park division. Attendance has been slowly increasing at the parks with Labor Day weekend seeing the park hitting capacity.

Halloween Horror Nights was unfortunately cancelled due to COVID-19 and a modified daytime event replaced this iconic event. Two scare mazes were on offer for horror fans, Revenge Of The Tooth Fairy and Universal Monsters: The Bride of Frankenstein Lives. They also surprised fans by opening a limited time Beetlejuice House for the Halloween weekend. This Beetlejuice inspired scare maze is expected to make a full appearance at Halloween Horror Nights 30 in 2021. Due to this event, attendance at Universal Orlando Resort continues to increase.

Universal have just announced on their official website that two more hotels will reopen in December which is very positive news. The Loews Portofino Bay Hotel will reopen on December 1st and Universal’s Endless Summer Resort - Dockside Inn & Suites will officially open on December 15th.

Loews Portofino Bay Hotel and Universal’s Endless Summer Resort - Dockside Inn & Suites will join the list of reopened Universal Orlando Hotels which currently includes Hard Rock Hotel®, Loews Royal Pacific Resort, Universal’s Cabana Bay Beach Resort and Universal’s Endless Summer Resort – Surfside Inn and Suites.
