Starcruiser, Disney

For any Star Wars fan, the mention of the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser is likely to cause instant excitement. This new specialty hotel aims to allow fans to truly experience the Star Wars universe by fully immersing them in the Star Wars Story.

This ambitious project was originally set to open in 2021 with reservations due to open later this year. As with a number of projects as a result of COVID-19, the status of the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser is currently delayed.

In the original scope for this project there was a huge focus on the interactive nature of the experience which would necessitate close contact with Cast Members and other guests. As of right now with current health and safety measures in place this wouldn't be possible. We don't currrently know whether Disney will decide to push ahead with the original plan in the hope rules will be loosened, as they have already started to be in Florida or whether they will change them to fit into the COVID-19 world we are currently living in.

Orlando Experience has uploaded a construction video of where the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser has currently got to and starts with a look at a construction update of The Walt Disney World Swan Reserve. Back in September 2018 it was announced that the Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin Resort would be adding a 14-story tower next to the current hotel on the area used at tennis courts.

The tower was originally going to be named "The Cove" but has been renamed as "The Walt Disney World Swan Reserve" and aims to provide it's guests with a relaxing atmosphere. The Walt Disney World Swan Reserve is reported as having 349 guest bedrooms including 149 suites as well as 2 presidential suites.

The amenities include a signature restaurant and bar and guests will also be able to take advantage of the extensive facilities, including restaurants, spas and swimming pools in the Swan and Dolphin hotel next door. For anyone looking for a convention space or a wedding venue the top floor boasts theme park views and beautiful decor.

From the video you can see that construction is developing on "The Walt Disney World Swan Reserve" but there is still a lot of work to do. It should look stunning when it is complete.

Although it was confirmed recently by Christine McCarthy, Senior Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of The Walt Disney Company that the opening of the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser is a "priority" for Disney, from the video there unfortunately doesn't appear to be much construction happening right now and the project seems a long way from completion. One interesting observation is that there appears to be the inclusion of windows into the structure. Originally it was proposed that they were going to use video screens in order to maintain the immersion in the Star Wars World. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
