It was announced at the end of August that Disney's Polynesian Village Resort would not be opening at all for the remainder of 2020, with it's monorail station closing at the beginning of October. Before this announcement it had originally been scheduled to reopen on August 12 which was then delayed until October 4.
At the end of September, Disney confirmed that the Polynesian Village Resort is now set to reopen in Summer 2021. Although the resort will be closed to normal guests, The Villas and Bungalows at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort will remain open during this refurbishment and will continue to serve Disney Vacation Club owners.
Walt Disney World Site Portfolio Executive, Zach Riddley wrote a post on Disney Parks Blog recently outlining details of what guests will experience when entering the refurbished Polynesian Village Resort next year, including an enhanced entryway. The aim is for this to open in time for the Resort's 50th anniversary celebrations.
A new porte cochere, which is a large entrance way will greet guests as they approach the resort and the colors, textures and patterns have been inspired from around the resort. As can be seen by the photo and was described by Zach in the post, "there will be a high-pitched, open-truss roof covered in thatch style."
We can also expect to see:
- Bold facade with colors to complement the Longhouses.
- New wooden screens covered by tropical colored geometric patterns along the Monorail station.
- Extra enhancements to the fountains and gardens.
- Chandeliers inspired by the ocean (glass floats, bamboo and fishing nets) will be added to the entryway and will match in style to the grand chandelier in the resort lobby.
The Great Ceremonial House is continuing to operate dining and retail outlets for the duration of the refurbishment. We will keep you posted on developments at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort on our News and Facebook page.

The lobby of the Poly was ruined when the initial changes were made a few years ago. We stayed at the Poly almost every year since since the 70’s. Our favorite resort - not any more. Gone is the atrium, prices through the roof. No longer a favorite.
