The big news, alongside the controversial mask wearing guidelines for many, when the reopening of theme parks began to be announced in May was that as well as your park ticket all guests would would require a reservation for their visit.

This was vital in order for theme parks to be able to carefully manage their capacity when the parks reopened. Since reopening, attendance levels have been lower than expected and earlier this week it was announced that reservations at Cedar Point and Kings Island are no longer needed.

Due to the necessity to try to cut costs after the COVID-19 closures and with lower attendance levels than originally hoped for and expected both parks have also adjusted their schedule. This is being seen across many theme parks across the US including Six Flags Parks.

We will aim to bring you any further information from Cedar Point and Kings Island regarding health and safety protocols and scheduling updates when they are announced. Here are their current operating hours.

Kings Island now states very clearly on it's homepage that ticket sales are now available and NO reservation is required, visit any public operating day during the 2020 season.

Kings Island operating schedule gets slightly confusing as we head into August so here is the current planned opening days and times according to their calendar:

  • The park will continue to open daily from 11am until 7pm for the remainder of July
  • The park will be open Sunday, Monday, Tuesday 11am - 8pm and Friday and Saturday 11am - 10pm for the first two weeks of August. It will be closed on Wednesdays and Thursdays in the beginning two weeks of August (5th, 6th, 12th and 13th).
  • As of August 17, the park will be closed every weekday and will only open Saturday and Sunday 11am - 10pm and it looks like it will continue this way for the near future.

Cedar Point is the same as Kings Island and clearly states on it's homepage that the park is open and NO reservations are required.

Currently the park is opening daily from 11am - 8pm for the remainder of July and according to the parks calendar this continues into August  until Monday August 17, when the park will be closed Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and will continue to open on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays 11am - 8pm daily.

Right now the calendar states that the park is closed from Tuesday September 8, keep up to date with changes by clicking here.

I and my entire family have had covid already. The worst part for us was the quarantine - BY FAR. I was never scared of catching this - at my age and health there is a 99.9% survival rate.

I would LOVE to visit right now (where else will WDW ever be this empty again?!) But I am not dealing with Florida heat and humidity with having to wear a mask. NO THANKS! And trying to imagine keeping those masks on all my kids under 10 (which studies are showing are least impacted by covid and less likely to spread it). Sounds totally miserable.

Remove the mask requirements and we'd be there in about 14 hours (which is the time it would take to drive from my home in Texas).
