"I don't scream ever. Too afraid of swallowing a bug or something."

"Banning screaming is ridiculous to some it’s an involuntary reaction. I don’t mind them recommending you don’t scream. It’s like going to the gym(when that was a thing, lol) and they tell you to try to keep your grunts to yourself."

"I think sometimes, it isn’t controllable—I understand the reasoning, but especially if the experience is new it sometimes just comes out! I think this would be hard for younger kids!"

"My sarcastic response is : Won’t the mask  catch the droplets??"

"What has this world come to . How do you go on a ride and not scream !!!"

"That is the point of roller coaster you're supposed to have fun and scream your head off if you don't like to scream then don't go on a roller coaster"

"As long as they are not screaming in my ear let them scream all they want."

"If you're at the point where you want people to stop screaming, the park shouldn't even be open at all."

"Roller coasters are thrill rides, screaming is an involuntary reaction to thrills, therefore, it is not possible to ban screaming on a roller coaster."

"And how EXACTLY would something soooooo ridiculous be enforced??"

"scream inside my heart it would explode. lol"

"Please. It’s proven that hearing screaming actually calms down people waiting to ride a thrill ride!!!!"

"Why dont we just ban joy altogether."

Summary of the debate

So, at this point I always summarise the main themes from the comments:

  • Majority of people have argued that screaming is an involuntary reaction so it is impossible to ban it.
  • Many people have questioned if laughter is also going to be banned as they laugh hysterically rather than scream. Surely you will still give out as many droplets with laughter as you do with screaming. Where does the banning end?
  • People have questioned the point of this, saying that masks should catch the droplets.
  • Some readers have commented that it would be postive not to have screaming in their ears while trying to enjoy a ride.

I just wanted to say that I personally love all theme parks, that's why my husband and I started Theme Park Tourist over 10 years ago. If you feel there is any bias in any of my articles I can only apologize, as this is definitely never intended.
