Earlier this month is was announced that Disneyland Resort would be reopening in summer 2020, starting with the Downtown Disney shopping district on July 9th, and then both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure reopening on July 17th, and then finishing on July 23, with the reopening of Disney's Grand Californian Hotel and Disney's Paradise Pier Hotel. However, it looks like these plans have been officially put on hold.
Disneyland Resort theme parks to remain closed indefinitely
Disneyland Resort announced this week that it will delay the reopenings of both the theme parks and hotels at Disneyland Resort, and no new target reopening date is currently being discussed. According to a statement released by Disney, The State of California has indicated that it will not issue theme park reopening guidelines until sometime after July 4, which would not allow enough time for Cast Members to be called back to work and re-trained.
The only part of Disneyland Resort's reopening that is still moving forward is the Downtown Disney reopening, which will still take place on July 9.
The news of Disneyland's delayed reopening comes just days after Disneyland Cast Members created a petition asking government officials in California to delay the reopening of Disneyland Resort theme parks with strong public support and nearly 50,000 signatures.
Unfortunately, with COVID-19 cases spiking across the country, especially in California (which reported 7,149 cases on the same day the reopening was delayed), it looks like it could be a long time before we hear about a reopening for the west coast resort. But what could this mean for Walt Disney World?
