4 Interesting New Things Happening Right Now at Disney Springs (December 2018)

Disney Springs has become quite the subject of controversy for the past few years, with some outspoken fans saying this re-imagined shopping district has become too much like an outlet mall and isn’t really keeping with the “spirit” of the former Downtown Disney district any more. However, no matter how you feel about the changing face of this location, in the two years since this shopping district opened, Disney has been making a lot of changes, opening new stores, offering great deals, and even hosting some character-based events.

This month, a temporary walk-through exhibit opens, a new restaurant open, plus the new Cirque du Soleil show inches along in development!

1. Kingdom Hearts III experience coming to Disney Springs

Beginning December 14th, Disney Springs will play host to a new Kingdom Hearts III experience that will give guests the chance to play some of the game, see a Keyblade exhibit and check out game artwork. Visitors can also pre-order the game using kiosks set up in this space. The Disney Springs Kingdom of Hearts experience will be open through January 31 2019. Though Disney has not confirmed it yet, it is assumed that this experience will set up shop in the former Disney Corner store location, which closed last month after the grand re-opening of World of Disney

2. New Cirque du Soleil show hits developmental milestone

Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba at Disney Springs closed forever at the end of 2017, but just before it did, Disney confirmed that a new Cirque du Soleil production was being developed for this theater that will “celebrate Disney’s legacy of storytelling in Cirque du Soleil’s signature way, with a tribute to the one-of a kind craftsmanship that makes Disney so extraordinary.”

And though we haven't heard much about this show in the past year, it looks like things are moving forward, as a new casting call has been posted to the official Cirque du Soleil website, suggesting developmental work on the show is entering its final phases, and potentially setting this show up for a late 2019 or early 2020 debut.

Though nothing has been confirmed yet, we're hoping to learn more about this new show early next year as development continues.
