The 8 BIG Updates from Walt Disney World (And Beyond) This Week (November 19-25)

This week at Walt Disney World, a new character meet and greet opens inside Epcot, a long-running rumor about the Disney Skyliner system is confirmed, plus Disney's Hollywood Studios quietly confirms a soft rebranding will take place this January

Outside Walt Disney World, a new perk is unveiled for annual passholders at Universal Orlando Resort and limited time deals on tickets for Busch Gardens Tampa are now available!

1. Wreck-it Ralph and Vanellope now meeting guests at Epcot

Just in time for the opening of Ralph Breaks the Internet, Disney has opened a new character meet and greet experience inside the Imagination Pavilion, which is a "new experiment [at the] Imagination Institute, creating a portal into other dimensions", This is the first of several planned character "portals" inside this newly re-purposed space, which brings guests into the internet so they can meet Ralph and Vanellope. More unannounced characters will be added in this new character area with new "portals" next year.

2. Disney Skyliner gondola cabs confirmed to not have air conditioning

Though it was rumored for several months, this week it was confirmed that the gondolas used in Disney's forthcoming Skyliner system (now confirmed to be opening in 2019) will not have a powered temperature control system, and will be a lot more like the Magic Kingdom's old Skyway gondola system, which allowed guests to feel the breeze as they travelled in the air. The gondolas will achieve this effect by using cross-ventilation to allow the air to flow inside the unit at all times. In addition, reflective windows (similar to those used in buses and monorails) will hopefully prevent the cabins from getting too hot.

3. Reservations can be made this week for 2019 stays at Gran Destino Tower

Last week it was revealed that the Coronado Springs tower addition will be completed next July and will be named the Gran Destino Tower. This new addition will be the new main entrance point for guests visiting Disney's Coronado Springs Resort and will add a total of 545 new guest rooms (including 50 suites).

And though we've still got eight months to go until the grand opening of this new tower, Disney has announced that reservations will be available beginning on Tuesday, November 27th, and are able to be booked online at the Walt Disney World website.
