Character meet and greets are a big part of what makes a trip to Walt Disney World so special, and in recent months Disney has taken it upon themselves to make a number of improvements and changes to each park's character line-up. While not all of these changes are always popular with guests, Disney is constantly making adjustments to try and make character offerings as diverse as possible while still keeping things running efficiently around the parks.
In this month's character update, a trio of Pixar favorites make their way to Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2019, a new character dance party is announced for Disney's Animal Kingdom plus Disney officially names an opening target for an upcoming Cars-based experience that has been in the works for several months.
1. Disney's Hollywood Studios to get a Pixar character infusion in 2019
Disney's Hollywood Studios has recently been making a lot of cuts to its character lineup, but it looks like they are also going to be adding some new experiences early next year to help give guests at this park new things to do. And interestingly, these new character experiences will all be centered around Pixar properties and will all be located near they newly-opened Toy Story Land:
We learned last week that the Guardians of the Galaxy meet and greet at Walt Disney Presents was closing and now we know what is replacing it: Mike and Sulley from Pixar’s Monsters, Inc! These beloved characters have not been seen at Disney's Hollywood Studios for several years, but have been confirmed to be returning to this park on January 18 2019, when this new meet and greet is set to open.
On the other side of the Toy Story Land Entrance, Disney will be transforming the former Pixar Place into an Incredibles-themed area that will feature a character meet and greet with the one and only Edna Mode. In addition guests can look for clues to the whereabouts of Jack-Jack and participate in periodic dance parties with music, dancing, interactive games and more.
2. Lion King 25th anniversary party coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom
And speaking of dance parties, over at Disney's Animal Kingdom, guests can celebrate 25 years of The Lion King movie with a new dance party, also debuting next year. Guests will be able to join Timon and Rafiki (who may be permanently moving on from the Planet Watch area of the park) in the all-new Hakuna Matata Time Dance Party on Discovery Island, which will kick off on January 18, 2019.
