2 BIG Changes Coming to Walt Disney World's Annual Pass Program

Walt Disney World has made a lot of changes to its annual passholder program in recent months, and it is no secret that not all of these changes have been popular with fans, as things like free resort parking and deep dining discounts have been discontinued in 2018. Though Walt Disney World doesn’t have the same huge reliance on regional visitors as the west coast Disneyland Resort does, the annual pass program at Walt Disney World is still one of the biggest ways the resort gets local residents to visit its theme parks again and again every year. However, over the past month, Disney has made some BIG changes to this program, that both current passholders as well as those thinking about purchasing an annual pass should know about:

1. New V.I.Passholder perk program announced

Earlier this week Disney announced that Gold, Platinum, Platinum Plus, and Premier Passholders will be able to participate in an all-new V.I.Passholder program, which will give these passholders access to special perks during the year, including extras and giveaways during seasonal events as well as sneak peeks of select new park offerings.

However, the most exciting part of this new initiative is the addition of V.I.Passholder Nights, which will be like an Extra Magic Hours program for annual passholders and will allow eligible guests to stay in the park on specific nights at Magic Kingdom and Epcot after the park closes to regular guests. Though the park won't be at full operation, select attractions, shops, and dining will stay open for these events. A list of what will be available will be released in the next few weeks.

And while this sounds a lot like Extra Magic Hours, there will be one big difference: advance reservations will be required. Annual passholders will receive an email in the coming weeks with a link they can use to register for these events in order to gain admittance. Here are the event dates that have been confirmed so far for this event:

  • August 5th, 2018 at the Magic Kingdom from 10pm to 12am
  • September 6th, 2018 at Epcot from 9pm-11pm
  • October 25th at Epcot from 9pm-11pm

Passholders will definitely want to register for these events as soon as possible, as passholder events in the past have sold out within minutes, so if you are interested in V.I.Passholder Nights, make sure you are checking your email! And though this interesting perk certainly sounds great for annual passholders, there's something else that guests who do not have a Gold or above annual pass may want to think about...
