4 Interesting Changes Coming to Epcot in the Near Future

Though all eyes may be on Disney’s Hollywood Studios with the June 30th opening of Toy Story Land happening in just a few weeks, Disney will be making some changes at its other parks as well to deal with what has already been a very busy tourist season so far. With that in mind, some interesting changes are coming to Epcot in both this summer and later on this year as well. But first, let's look at a new show that is opening this weekend...

1. Guardians of the Galaxy - Awesome Mix Live! debuts this weekend

Announced earlier this year, Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Mix Live! will debut this weekend at the America Gardens Theater at the back of Epcot's World Showcase. The show will feature Star-Lord and Gamora in person as a 7-piece alien band brings many recognizable tunes from Awesome Mix Volumes 1 & 2.  Groot will also be making an appearance at this show. Disney has also released the following official synopsis of the show:

After saving their world from certain destruction, Peter Quill—a.k.a. Star Lord—brokered a deal with Nova Prime and the Xandarian government to bring an outreach program to his home planet. The purpose? To share Xandar’s rich heritage and culture with Earth’s people. As luck would have it, Peter informed Xandar’s leaders that there’s already a place on Earth with a similar mission… a theme park called Epcot, where all of Earth’s cultures are celebrated. So, as part of their first outreach, Xandar has sent some of their most talented performers to showcase their music!

Guests will have plenty of chances to catch this new show, as showtimes will be daily at 1:30pm, 2:30pm, 5:30pm, 6:45pm and 8pm. This show will be playing a limited engagement through the end of the summer, officially coming to a close on August 19th.

2. IllumiNations reserved viewing area changes for extra FastPass+ purchasers

There are several ways to guarantee reserved seating at Epcot's nightly spectacular, but for guests who purchase additional FastPass+ reservations (which come with reserved seating at nightly spectaculars) will now be able to enjoy IllumiNations next to the Canada boat dock on the right side of Showcase Plaza. The other IllumiNations reserved seating areas remain unchanged, with FastPass+ viewing still in front of World Showcase Plaza between the two gift shops, and Frozen Ever After Dessert Party stationed by the Disney Traders gift store.
