4. Terralina Crafted Italian
Opening in: Summer 2018
Portobello Country Italian Trattoria at Disney Springs closed its doors on April 24th, 2017 to undergo a major refurbishment, and just a few days later it was confirmed that this refurbishment will be more akin to a total overhaul, with the restaurant now confirmed to be opening again in summer 2018 with a new concept and name: Terralina Crafted Italian. Though this reimagined location was originally scheduled to reopen in Fall of 2017, it looks like this new(ish) location is on track to open in July 2018 with a more authentic Italian concept including a family-style menu along with a selection of Italian craft beers and wines.
5. Untitled Cirque du Soleil show based on Disney movies
Opening in: 2018 (Rumored)
Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba at Disney Springs closed forever at the end of 2017, but just before it did, Disney confirmed that a new Cirque du Soleil production was being developed for this theater. But this time, this all-new show will have a uniquely Disney flair, and be unlike anything else either Disney or Cirque du Soleil have produced in the past.
According to a press release from Disney, this new show will be based around some of Disney's most iconic films “draw [ing] its inspiration from Disney's heritage of animation,” and will “celebrate Disney’s legacy of storytelling in Cirque du Soleil’s signature way, with a tribute to the one-of a kind craftsmanship that makes Disney so extraordinary.”
Though no specifics have been made available, we’d imagine this new show will feature plenty of high flying stunts, incredible costumes, and of course some classic Disney songs recalling Disney's most famous animated hits, all while keeping with Cirque du Soleil's iconic and irreverent style. No opening date has been announced but it seems plausible that this new show will open sometime in 2018.
6. Disney Skyliner
Opening in: 2019 (rumored)
Walt Disney World's new gondolas project, officially named Disney Skyliner, will connect Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, Disney’s Pop Century Resort, and the new DVC property, Disney's Riviera Resort through a series of elevated, closed-cabin gondolas. According to official documents, it looks like there will be six individual loading and unloading stations for the gondola system, one at each destination.
The various Disney Skyliner cabs will also feature favorite Disney characters, including the fab five as well as the hitchhiking ghosts. Unfortunately, no construction timetables or opening dates have been confirmed, and construction work is visible at Epcot as well as the Pop Century Resort. Though nothing has been announced, we'd imagine that Disney is hoping to have this project off the ground, quite literally, before Star Wars Land opens at Disney's Hollywood Studios in 2019.
