Character meet and greets are a big part of what makes a trip to Walt Disney World so special, and in recent months Disney has taken it upon themselves to make a number of improvements and changes to each park's character line-up. While not all of these changes are always popular with guests, Disney is constantly making adjustments to try and make character offerings as diverse as possible while still keeping things running efficiently around the parks.
In this month's character update, rare characters hit Disney's Animal Kingdom this spring, Disney's Hollywood Studios loses a meet and greet this summer, plus a Pixar character gets a redesign, and tickets become available for an upcharge event that will bring several rare characters this spring to Disney's Hollywood Studios after hours!
1. Rare characters come out for the Party for the Planet beginning this Memorial Day at Disney's Animal Kingdom
Several weeks ago Disney announced that a “dino-tastic” celebration with Donald Duck and his friends would be coming to Disney's Animal Kingdom beginning Memorial Day weekend in DinoLand, U.S.A., and now some additional details have been reveled about what character fans can expect from this new entertainment offering.
Apparently, this dinosaur-themed party is being held to celebrate Donald Duck’s discovery that his bird ancestors were actually dinosaurs. And in addition to a live DJ playing music during this nightly celebration, Disney has also announced that several rare characters will be appearing during the festivities to interact with guests, including some of Donald Duck's cohorts like Scrooge McDuck and Launchpad McQuack! While we're sure more characters will pop in and out, this new event sounds like a great way to interact with some characters not typically seen at Walt Disney World!
2. Star Lord and Baby Groot meet and greet confirmed to be ending this summer
With Star Lord on his way to Epcot this summer for a live concert experience at the World Showcase, it makes sense for this character to move out of Disney's Hollywood Studios (along with Baby Groot) during this season. This character meet and greet space probably won't stay vacant for long though, as Disney has been using it extensively in recent years to promote upcoing films, and with Wreck-It Ralph 2 set to hit theaters later this year, we wouldn't be surprised if characters from that animated film end up here this fall. Of course nothing has been announced yet, so this is simply speculation for now.
