This week at Walt Disney World, another closure is rumored for Disney's Hollywood Studios, two additional limited-time tests are confirmed for Walt Disney World resorts, plus a new addition arrives Disney's Animal Kingdom
Outside Walt Disney World, a new dining location is confirmed for Universal CityWalk and SeaWorld brings back a popular freebie offer for 2018!
1. Sweet Spells rumored to be closing to make way for additional retail space
According to WDWNT, the Sweet Spells snack location at Disney's Hollywood Studios will be closing in the very near future and the space formerly occupied by this bakery and treat shopo will be converted into additional retail space, reportedly themed to Toy Story in anticipation of Toy Story Land opening later this year. Many of the baked goods sold at this location are already available at the Trolley Car Cafe location, and it is expected that more will be available at this location if this closure does indeed happen. No timeframe has been given, but this change could come very soon.
2. Cash-less test announced for Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge
Walt Disney World will be testing a new cut at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge that would see this resort not accept any cash at all beginning February 12th. During this time guests will be able to pay for rooms, dining, gifts and more using MagicBands, credit cards, debit cards, Disney Gift Cards, Apple Pay, Samsung Pay or Google Pay. Cash will only be accepted for tips and for guests who need to use it at the front desk to add additional funds to their room charge capabilities.
3. Nurses' station test begins at All-Star Resorts
And speaking of tests, beginning this week, an on-site nurse will be available to provide basic first aid services to guests staying at Disney’s All-Star Resorts as part of a 90-day test. Guests who need assistance can visit a new nurses' station that will be set up in the lobby of Disney’s All-Star Music Resort from 7:00 AM through 11:00 AM. Nurses will be able to provide guests with over-the-counter medications, remedies, and bandages, as well as give basic guidance for minor health issues.
4. Permits filed for Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge restuarants
Though we're still more than a year away from the 2019 opening of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, permits have officially been filed for the construction of the two new restaurants that will be housed in this land, including the quick-service cantina as well as the dinner show table service restaurant. Though the permits don't reveal any new information about these dining locations, at least we know that work is progressing on this part of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge, and hopefully Disney will reveal more information soon!
