New Things We’ve Learned About the New Live Show Coming to Walt Disney World

Though we still have a lot of questions about what kind of show will be coming to the under-construction theater on Main Street USA at the Magic Kingdom, Disney quietly confirmed earlier this week that a new live show will be coming to a different part of the resort sometime next year, with a new theme that is very intriguing: Disney Animation. And while details are still coming together about this new show, here’s what we have learned so far about Disney's latest live-theater offering.

Cirque du Soleil has partnered with Disney to produce a new show based on Disney movies

Though we’ve known for nearly a year now that Cirque du Soleil’s La Nouba at Disney Springs would be closing at the end of 2017, Disney remained silent for quite a long time about when or if a replacement could be coming to this Disney Springs venue. However earlier this week, Disney confirmed that not only is a new stage production is being developed for this theater, but once again, it will be a Cirque du Soleil production. But this time, this all-new show will have a uniquely Disney flair, and be unlike anything else either Disney or Cirque du Soleil have produced in the past/

According to a press release from Disney, this new show will be based around some of Disney's most iconic films and will “draw its inspiration from Disney's heritage of animation,” and will “celebrate Disney’s legacy of storytelling in Cirque du Soleil’s signature way, with a tribute to the one-of a kind craftsmanship that makes Disney so extraordinary.”

Though no specifics have been made available, we’d imagine this new show will feature plenty of high flying stunts, incredible costumes, and of course some classic Disney songs recalling Disney's most famous animated hits, all while keeping with Cirque du Soleil's iconic and irreverent style.

There is no opening date for this show…yet

Right now there is no opening date for this new show, which is still deep in development. However, because this show is a moneymaker for both Disney and Cirque du Soleil, we’d imagine that Disney is going to try and get this show up and running sometime in 2018. If we had to guess, Disney will probably announce an opening date for this as-yet untitled show sometime in the next few months, with an opening before 2018's holiday season kicks off.
