4 Interesting Changes Walt Disney World is Making Now to Deal with Massive Holiday Crowds

It’s the most wonderful time of the year…to visit Walt Disney World! Though crowds have been a bit soft this year, Disney is expecting a massive influx of guests beginning this week and lasting through the new year. As a result, a number of changes are being made between now and the New Year to try and make things as comfortable as possible for guests who visit the resort during this time. If you are planning a visit to Walt Disney World over the next few weeks, here's what you need to know:

1. The Magic Kingdom offers new “free” paper FastPasses on crowded nightsMagic Kingdom entrance

Though paper FastPasses have been out of commission at Walt Disney World for more than five years, it looks like some guests visiting the Magic Kingdom over the next few weeks may receive a special “surprise and delight” FastPass on select evenings in November and December when the park is very busy. These special paper FastPasses will only be valid on the same date and can be used to skip the line at any attraction in the park except for the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Peter Pan’s Flight, or any of the character greeting locations found around the park. FastPasses will be distributed by Cast Members, and will be given away at random, so they're not something you should be asking for.

2. Disney’s Animal Kingdom makes changes to Pandora - The World of Avatar

Though it has been open for more than six months, Pandora - The World of Avatar continues to command massive crowds at Walt Disney World, and with a large influx of guests predicted to be arriving over the next few days, Disney has taken steps to try and get in front of what could be some of the biggest crowds yet for this new area. First of all, Disney is once again seperating the main entrance to Pandora - The World of Avatar into entrance and exit lines, which will hopefully manage guest flow in this area as foot traffic increases, and will also provide a natural queue space if the land fills to capacity, as it did during its opening weeks.

In addition, though the days of sold-out Banshees look like they are behind us, Disney has added a pop-up Rookery on the far side of Pandora in addition to the one installed at Windtraders so that guests who want to pick up one of these awesome little creatures for the holidays have an additional place they can do so, hopefully minimizing wait time.
