Though we still have six weeks left in 2017, next year is shaping up to be a big one for theme parks in Orlando, as it will see the opening of Toy Story Land at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, Infinity Falls at SeaWorld Orlando, and The Fast and the Furious: Supercharged at Universal Studios Florida. However, beyond the new openings that are scheduled to take place next year, there are a number of closings that are whispered to be happening in 2018 as well, including one that has been rumored for several years now...

1 Stitch’s Alien Escape (Magic Kingdom)

Though it was rumored in 2016, and again in 2017, perhaps 2018 will finally see the end of Stitch's Great Escape at the Magic Kingdom. While reported plans for a VR-based Wreck-It Ralph replacement attraction have supposedly been scrapped, Disney is placing this attraction on seasonal status at the beginning of next year, which makes us once again skeptical of the future of Stitch’s Great Escape in Tomorrowland. Will 2018 be the year this attraction finally bites the dust? This attraction continues to defy the odds, so we’ll have to wait and see.

2 Grand Fiesta Tour (Epcot)

It’s no secret that Epcot is making some big changes to try and incorporate more characters into this park, and several months ago an interesting rumor popped up online that could indicate another character-infusion could be coming soon to the World Showcase. According to a few inside sources, Disney is strongly considering re-theming the boat ride in the Mexico pavilion again, this time using characters from the upcoming Pixar film Coco. Already this film has been a breakout success in Mexico, but Disney will probably wait to see the US box office numbers before making a final decision about whether or not to bring this new IP to Epcot.

However, if the film does do well in the US (and word of mouth has been strong), and if Disney could do a quickie overlay (the same way they did with Frozen Ever After in Norway), it seems quite possible that we could see the end of the Grand Fiesta Tour starring the Three Caballeros close sometime next year to make way for a Coco character addition.
