As 2017 draws to a close, Walt Disney World is preparing for the onslaught of guests expected to flock to the resort during the holiday season. And though we recently took a look at some of the changes coming to this park last week, there have been a flurry of announcements for both the holiday season and beyond that fans of this park should definitely know about.
From confirmation of the date a controversial change is set to take place at Pirates of the Caribbean to the return of Stitch's Great Escape, here's everything happenning soon at the Magic Kingdom:
1. Refurbishment dates confirmed for Pirates of the Caribbean to change redhead scene
One of the most iconic lines in the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, aside from “Dead men tell no tales!” occurs near the Take a Wench for a Bride scene, where some excited pirates shout “We want the redhead!” as a beautifully costumed lady (presumably for sale) poses in the foreground. Though this scene is iconic enough to have inspired pins, shirts, and countless additional merchandise over the years, Disney confirmed earlier this year that they will be making some big changes to this part of the attraction.
Now, instead of a “bride auction” scene, guests will see the same characters, but in different roles. Instead of selling off wenches, guests will see pirates transporting stolen goods, with the infamous redhead now becoming a pirate herself (complete with her own gun!) and assisting with the taking of the items from the townsfolk
2. Stitch's Great Escape returns AGAIN this holiday season
It has been more than a year since Disney began seasonal operation for Stitch's Great Escape, and ever since that announcement was made, this attraction has been on deathwatch, as Disney has a history of making attractions “seasonal” before closing them forever. However, against all odds Stitch's Great Escape has come back a number of times over the past year, sometimes for several weeks at a time.
Most recently, this attraction morphed into Stitch's Alien Encounter Character Greeting, which has allowed guests to meet the full-sized character in the front "holding area" of this attraction. And though we thought this might finally signal the end of this attraction, like the Christmas present you didn't really want, the original Stitch's Great Escape has been confirmed to be coming back, opening on December 23rd, 2017, and operating daily through January 6th, 2018 from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
