Disney parks are constantly changing their refurbishment schedules, making it difficult for guests to keep up with the operating times and latest news regarding their favorite attractions, resorts, shops, and restaurants. Here are a few big, upcoming changes that are either confirmed by their respective parks or at the least very strongly rumored for the very near future.
This month's refurbishment update includes the continued question mark over the status of the Hall of Presidents, an exterior refurbishment in Tomorrowland, a restaurant refurbishment in 2018, plus a brief character closure at Disney's Hollywood Studios.
1. Hall of Presidents (Magic Kingdom)
Dates: Now - TBA
The Hall of Presidents officially went down for refurbishment on January 17th, and Disney originally planned to reopen this attraction six months later on June 30th. Even though this was already a long refurbishment, it looks like fans of this attraction will need to wait even longer to experience it again, as Disney has said that this attraction will miss its summer 2017 reopening target date, and will likely reopen much later this fall.
Since this update last month Disney has still declined to provide a reopening date at this time, with the refurbishment now tentatively scheduled through December 31, 2017 on the official Hall of Presidents attraction page. Unfortunately, right now there doesn't seem to be a definite timeline for the end of the refurbishment, and while we don't know much now, hopefully Disney will provide some updates on this project soon.
2. Space Mountain (Magic Kingdom)
Dates: Ongoing (not closed)
Though it is rare, Space Mountain is currently undergoing its own refurbishment right now which does not actually involve a closure. Guests who ride the monorail to the Magic Kingdom over the next few days will be able to see an exterior refurbishment taking place as the outside of this attraction is completely repainted and refreshed. Though structures related to the cleaning and painting work are clearly visible, from around the attraction, this work will not affect ride operations.
Dates: February 28 - March 2, 2018
Though it may seem a long ways off, Walt Disney World has confirmed that Cinderella's Royal Table at the Magic Kingdom is scheduled to be closed for a short refurbishment next year. This in-demand dining location will be unavailable for guests from February 28 through to March 2, with a reopening to guests expected on March 3 2018.
