This week at Walt Disney World, Toy Story Land hits an important milestone, Disney confirms some details about its new Minnie Vans service, plus we have a trio of updates from Disney Springs!
Programming note: Though we normally devote some time to Orlando-area parks outside Lake Buena Vista, there has been so much going on at Walt Disney World over the past seven days that we decided to forgo the “beyond” this week. You’ll hear about all the news from Universal Orlando Resort, Busch Gardens Tampa and SeaWorld Orlando in next week’s update!
1. Track completed on Slinky Dog Dash
Toy Story Land reached an important milestone this week when the final piece of track for the Slinky Dog Dash coaster was installed. To celebrate, Walt Disney Imagineering shared a new video giving guests an up-close look at the new coaster, which you can watch above. Though we still don't know an exact date yet, Toy Story Land is still set to open in the summer of 2018 at Disney's Hollywood Studios.
2. Minnie Vans service now live via partnership with Lyft
Disney has announced this week that guests can now order one of Disney's Minnie Vans using the non-Disney Lyft app, available for both Android and iOS. This new service is priced at $20 per trip per vehicle, with testing currently underway at Disney's BoardWalk and Yacht Club Resorts between 6:30 AM and 12:30 AM. The service is expected to expand to more locations throughout Walt Disney World in the next few weeks while the system is refined and ramped up.
3. Star Wars Trading Post now open in the Marketplace at Disney Springs
Disney Springs has opened a new Star Wars merchandise shop in the former Fun Finds shop, just across from Earl of Sandwich. Along with the usual clothing and toys, this new location also features a build your own droid and build you own lightsaber area.
