Though the summer season at Walt Disney World has yet to begin, Disney is already looking ahead to this fall, as new details have been released about this year's 22nd edition of the Epcot Interntional Food and Wine Festival, which will again take place for a record 75 days, kicking off earlier than ever on August 31st and running until November 14th. Though we’ve known the basics behind this year’s event for some time, a few intriguing new details have emerged about just what exactly we can expect from this milestone year.
Though 2017’s event will of course feature the requisite menu updates to kiosks around the World Showcase as well as the return of the Ratatouille-based scavenger hunt, and the Party for the Senses event, this year will also see a number of new changes that look to increase the scope of the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival and make its 2017 edition quite the celebratory affair! Though we’re expecting even more to be announced as we move closer to this event's September start date, here are five confirmed changes that already have us excited for this year's event!
1. Two "new" kiosks will be debuting this year
Though frequent guests have come to expect their favorites year after year at the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival, each year also brings new choices to this annual event as well. It has now been confirmed that this year's event will feature 35 marketplaces, including two newbies: India and Spain. That 35 number isn't an accident by the way, and corresponds with Epcot’s 35th anniversary.
However, though this really is the first time that India has been represented at the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival (which kind of feels like an oversight considering the popularity of Indian food, even over at Disney's Animal Kingdom), calling Spain a "new" kiosk is a little false, as Spain was a part of the 2011 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival as well.
While we don't know yet which kiosks will be returning alongside these two new options, both India and Spain have been requested for years, and it is great to see these two popular destinations added in 2017.
2. New menu items have been confirmed
While we're going to have to wait several more months before we get full menus for this year's festival, Disney has released a few teaser menu items to get fans' mouths watering nearly four months before this year's festival gets underway:
- Crispy chicken with griddled cornbread and gravy at the Farm Fresh marketplace
- Charcuterie in a cone at Spain marketplace
- Spicy korma chicken and the pistachio cardamom cake from the India marketplace.
