Disney Springs is Changing in Some Big Ways. Here's How (May 2017)

Disney Springs has become quite the subject of controversy for the past few years, with some outspoken fans saying this re-imagined shopping district has become too much like an outlet mall and isn’t really keeping with the “spirit” of the former Downtown Disney district any more. However, no matter how you feel about the changing face of this location, in the two years since this shopping district opened, Disney has been making a lot of changes, opening new stores, offering great deals, and even hosting some character-based events.

This month brings even more changes to this shopping area, including a new free event happening next week, a few exciting limited-time discounts and deals, plus Disney Springs gets its first real closure.

1. New deal now available for Characters in Flight

Though the Characters in Flight balloon has become an iconic symbol of Disney Springs, this attraction doesn't always draw a lot of foot traffic. However, in an effort to help bring guests to this high-flying balloon ride, the company that owns Characters in Flight has partnered with Groupon to offer a special deal: Guests who follow this link can purchase a single ticket for one person for $11.50 (down from $20.00) or for two for $23.00 (down from $40.00). It is unknown how long this deal will be available for, so if you want to experience this attraction, you'll want to buy these tickets soon!

2. Sound Lion now closed, and a new tenant to move in soon

Sound Lion, which was one of the first shops that opened when Downtown Disney became Disney Springs, has now been closed. The store was open for just over two years, as it welcomed its first guests in February 2015 and closed last week. Sound Lion sold a range of headphones, earbuds, bluetooth speakers and accessories. Disney has said that a new shop is already set to open in this space in the very near future, but no announcements have been made thus far.
