Disney parks are constantly changing their refurbishment schedules, making it difficult for guests to keep up with the operating times and latest news regarding their favorite attractions, resorts, shops, and restaurants. Here are a few big, upcoming changes that are either confirmed by their respective parks or at the least very strongly rumored for the very near future.
This month's refurbishment update includes an unusual summer refurbishment, a few last-minute touch ups happening around Disney's Animal Kingdom in advance of the opening of Pandora - The World of Avatar, and confirmation of a rumor about a popular Disney Springs eatery.
1. Splash Mountain (Magic Kingdom)
Dates: August 28 - November 17, 2017
In a somewhat strange move, it has been announced that Splash Mountain at the Magic Kingdom will be going down for a lengthy refurbishment later this summer. The refurbishment is planned to kick off on August 28th and last over two months, reopening to guests on November 17th. This late summer closure is a bit unusual, both because of the length, and the fact that it is being done in summer instead of winter, when the attraction normally goes down for regular maintenance.
If we had to guess, we'd say that some of the animatronics inside this attraction will be getting some attention, as they have been displaying some substantial wear and tear over the past few years, and the fixes that are required would likely take a lot longer than just a week or two.
Though nothing has been confirmed, we'll be keeping an eye on the rumor mill in the next few months, as it seems quite likely that Disney is planning to do some major work on this attraction while it is closed this summer.
2. Maharajah Jungle Trek (Disney's Animal Kingdom)
Dates: Now - May 5th, 2017
The Maharajah Jungle Trek's tiger exhibit at Disney's Animal Kingdom is now down for refurbishment, and will reopen to guests on May 5th. Although the closure of the tiger exhibit is a bit of a bummer, the rest of the Maharajah Jungle Trek will be open as normal during this time (the tiger exhibit is simply walled off), and of course the whole thing will be open again in just a few days on May 5th.
