Disney parks are constantly changing their refurbishment schedules, making it difficult for guests to keep up with the operating times and latest news regarding their favorite attractions, resorts, shops, and restaurants. Here are a few big, upcoming changes that are either confirmed by their respective parks or at the least very strongly rumored for the very near future.
This month's refurbishment update includes more information about the impacts from the upcoming Coronado Springs refurbishment, a quick closure at Disney's Animal Kingdom, and another big project at Disney Springs. However, let's get things started with a mysterious refurbishment at Epcot coming this summer with some major implications...
1. Mission: SPACE (Epcot)
Dates: June 5 - July 30
Earlier this month it was announced that Mission: SPACE would be closing for a nearly two-month refurbishment this summer. Kicking off June 5, and lasting through to the end of July, this refurbishment will be a little bit unusual as it will involve the closing of all ride bays, which is something that hasn't happened in many years, and signals some big changes could be coming to this attraction.
Because of the somewhat unique nature of this refurbishment, it has been speculated that guests who board this attraction after it reopens could potentially find new storylines and simulations to experience after the refurbishment, which is a change that has been rumored for several years now.
And while this may seem like an intriguing idea, the success of such a big change for this attraction will largely depend on how Disney implements this new concept. We've got a lot more about this attraction's refurbishment (and more information about what shape these new "missions" could take) here.
2. It's Tough to be a Bug (Disney's Animal Kingdom)
Dates: April 23 - 29, 2017
Potentially the most terrifying attraction at Disney's Animal Kingdom, It's Tough to be a Bug, will be closed for a short refurbishment later this month, beginning April 23, and lasting through to April 29, It is unknown what changes will be taking effect at this attraction during this closure, but given the short amount of downtime, we'd imagine that some of the non-functional effects at this show will be spruced up. It's Tough to be a Bug has been in rough shape for a few years now, and with Pandora - The World of Avatar opening next month, it will be more important than ever for every single attraction at this park to be in top form.
