Theme park attractions come and go all the time, and even though we’d like all our favorite rides and shows to stick around forever, the sad fact is that we have to say goodbye to at least a few every year.
This month, the Magic Kingdom gets ready to say goodbye to its long-running nighttime spectacular, Disney's Hollywood Studios loses an entrance and a popular snack spot, plus a firm closing date is confirmed for DisneyQuest later this year.
Location: Magic Kingdom
Status: Going extinct May 11, 2017
Though we’ve known for some time that nighttime entertainment at the Magic Kingdom was going to be getting an update, Disney dropped a bombshell on us earlier this month when it was announced that Wishes, the long-running nighttime fireworks spectacular that has been a signature part of this park's evening entertainment for over a decade, would be going away forever later this year on May 11, 2017.
However, it looks like fans won’t have to wait too long for a replacement for this show, as Disney has announced that a brand new nighttime spectacular, entitled “Happily Ever After” will be making its debut at the Magic Kingdom just one day later on May 12, 2017.
This new show will be unique as it will use projection mapping in addition to pyrotechnics to transform Cinderella Castle every night into scenes from both modern and classic Disney films including Moana, Big Hero 6, Aladdin, Brave, The Lion King, Zootopia, Peter Pan, Toy Story, The Pirates of the Caribbean, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Princess and the Frog. While we are used to these projections being used in the Once Upon a Time pre-show, this will be the first time that this element will be a part of the actual nighttime spectacular in addition to fireworks and Tinker Bell's flight.

2. DisneyQuest (the whole place!)
Location: Disney Springs
Status: Going extinct July 3, 2017
Though we have known for nearly two years that DisneyQuest was not long for this world, Disney has officially announced that this location will close its doors forever on July 3, 2017. This is still quite a while from now, and will give fans four more months to make one final stop at the location that was once billed as the “theme park of the future”.
While we're sad to see this fixture of the former Downtown Disney district go, DisneyQuest had really been neglected in the past decade, and its good to at least finally have a confirmed closing date for this location after months and months of rumor and speculation.
Details have yet to be released, but Disney has confirmed that the new NBA Experience facility will be constructed sometime in the next few years in the space formerly occupied by DisneyQuest. You can read more about this still in-development project here.
