Disney parks are constantly changing their refurbishment schedules, making it difficult for guests to keep up with the operating times and latest news regarding their favorite attractions, resorts, shops, and restaurants. Here are a few big, upcoming changes that are either confirmed by their respective parks or at the least very strongly rumored for the very near future.
This month's refurbishment update includes a pair of pool closures, plus an expansion at the Magic Kingdom and confirmation of a two year project that is slated to kick off in the near future!
1. Cosmic Ray's Starlight Cafe (Magic Kingdom)
It was confirmed earlier this week that Disney is working on expanding Tomorrowland's Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café eatery in the Magic Kingdom during the first part of this year. However, this quick service restaurant will not be closing during the remodel, with the project instead rolling out in phases so guests can continue to use parts of the restaurant while work is ongoing.
Interestingly, the first phase of the remodel has already kicked off, with the guest bathrooms now closed while Disney expands and renovates them (if you find yourself needing to use the facilities Disney is redirecting guests to Star Traders for the time being). Once this initial part of the project has concluded, the plan is for this restaurant to add more covered seating outside to accommodate larger groups. Currently there is no specific completion date available for this remodel, but estimates are saying that work on this remodel should be done by this summer.
2. Runoff Rapids (Blizzard Beach)
Dates: Now - March 2017
While the entirety of Typhoon Lagoon is still under refurbishment until the end of next month, Walt Disney World's other water park, Blizzard Beach, looks like it will be having its own refurbishment during the final weeks of winter. It has been confirmed that the Runoff Rapids attraction, which consists of three individual water slides, will be closed from now until the beginning of spring for some regular maintenance work. No official re-opening date has been confirmed for this attraction yet, but we should know more later this month as work continues on this slide.
3. Fantasia Pool (Disney's All-Stars Resort)
Dates: February 6-10
Though winters in Florida are almost never severely cold, Disney still uses the cooler months to refurbish some of the pools around the resort. The first of these pool refurbishments this month is the Fantasia Pool at the All-Star Movies resort, which will be drained and cleaned from February 6th through the 10th, and will then reopen to guests the following day.
