It has been nearly two years since Downtown Disney officially turned into Disney Springs, and in that time this shopping district has changed dramatically with the seasonal addition of a nighttime spectacular, and plenty of new locations for guests to shop, sip and dine. However, it looks like Disney Springs is headed for even more big changes in the future, including reduced hours for several dining locations, a re-theme for a store that just opened last month, plus the opening of a new store. However, first let's look at a change that you will undoubtedly be able to see with your own eyes the next time you visit Disney Springs...
1. The Characters in Flight balloon gets a redesign (and removes the characters)
After a brief refurbishment earlier this month, the Characters in Flight balloon at Disney Springs debuted a new look that is designed to fit more in line with the overall Disney Springs style. And interestingly, it looks like that style is one that is actually devoid of Disney characters!
Though Characters in Flight has gone through a number of different looks over the years, it has always featured larger than life characters. However, as you can see above, guests around Disney Springs will no longer be able to see these characters "flying" up ahead when this attraction ascends to the sky.
While some may lament the removal of Disney characters from this attraction, Disney Springs seems to be targeting a more general (and not specifically Disney) look with its newest projects, and this is likely an extension of that.
2. Operating hours cut at select Disney Springs dining locations
3. D-Living to be temporarily closed at the end of the month for a re-theme
Though it only just opened last month right before the holidays, Disney has announced that it will be temporarily closing the new D-Living homegoods shop on January 31st. This store will then stay closed until February 2nd while a new overlay is installed. It is unknown what this new overlay will be, or whether Disney will be substantially changing what is sold in this flexible store space to reflect the changing crowds at Disney Springs.
