Disney parks are constantly changing their refurbishment schedules, making it difficult for guests to keep up with the operating times and latest news regarding their favorite attractions, resorts, shops, and restaurants. Here are a few big, upcoming changes that are either confirmed by their respective parks or at the least very strongly rumored for the very near future.
For November's refurbishment update, we take a look at some newly-confirmed details about the upcoming closure of the Hall of Presidents, a brief refurbishment of an iconic Magic Kingdom ride, a monthlong maintenance period for a Disney's Animal Kingdom favorite, plus the long-awaited reopening of an attraction that was closed for nearly four months!
1. The Hall of Presidents (Magic Kingdom)
Dates: January 17, 2017 to June 29, 2017
With Donald Trump now officially the President-elect of the United States of America, we now know that when the Hall of Presidents closes right before inauguration day, it will be to install a new audio-animatronic of President Trump. Though this will be a rather lengthy six-month closure, Bob Iger recently confirmed that Disney has already gotten a jump on preparing for this refurbishment, as work on a Donald Trump bust has already begun.
Besides the addition of the audio animatronic of the new president, it will be interesting to see if Disney makes additional changes to the Hall of Presidents during this closure as well. The show was overhauled in 2009 after Barack Obama was elected, with new film segments, narration by Morgan Freeman, and the addition of George Washington as the third speaking president. And while some of these show elements could remain, the addition of a new president provides Disney with an opportunity to make substantial changes to this attraction yet again and reinvent it for a whole new generation of guests.
Since the addition of Bill Clinton in 1993, all sitting presidents have recorded their own voices for their respective Hall of Presidents audio animatronics, and it is assumed that Donald Trump will continue this tradition in 2017, recording his voiceover for this Magic Kingdom attraction sometime after his inauguration.
2. The Haunted Mansion (Magic Kingdom)
Dates: November 28 - December 1, 2016
If you've been to the Magic Kingdom in recent weeks, you've probably noticed that extensive work has been going on at the Haunted Mansion, with the exterior being spruced up and some regular maintenance taking place intermittently in the graveyard extended queue area. However, though this attraction has been operating normally during this recent work, it has been confirmed that the Haunted Mansion will be closing for just a few days later this month so the inside can get a little TLC as well and this beloved attraction can look its best right before the busy holiday season.
