If you haven’t been to Universal Orlando Resort in the past several months, you might not remember that Universal Studios Florida is actually planning to open a new ride in 2017: Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon. If the name doesn’t sound instantly familiar to you, it’s likely because Universal quietly confirmed this new ride back in 2015 (after several months of online speculation) and then said nothing else about the attraction for over a year, simply putting up construction signs in the park and letting guests draw their own conclusions about what this new attraction would be like.
However, now that we’re (presumably) less than a year away from this new attraction’s opening day, Universal Orlando Resort has finally received the first real details about what guests can expect from Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon when it opens sometime next year.
1. As rumored, Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon will use a ride system that is a lot like Soarin’
Even before Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon was confirmed, rumors surfaced online that implied that the new ride taking over the former Twister building was going to be very similar in function to Epcot favorite Soarin’. And now we know that these early whispers were indeed correct, as Universal has confirmed the ride will use what they are calling a “Flying Theater”, which will seat 72 guests at a time and allow visitors to "race" Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon through the streets of New York City.
Though it hasn’t been confirmed just yet, early reports imply there will be some kind of motion component to this attraction as well (which would make it at least a little bit different from the mostly-stationary Soarin' gliders), though we don’t know yet if it will be something as simple as a small tilting motion, or as dramatic as what we’re expecting to see in the upcoming Avatar: Flight of Passage attraction, which is also expected to debut down the street at Walt Disney World next year and will reportedly also allow for much more thrilling multi-directional movement.
2. This new attraction will be a real treat for longtime Jimmy Fallon fans
Though the basic idea behind this attraction will be to give riders an up-close view of popular New York icons like the Statue of Liberty and the Empire State Building, Race Through New York Starring Jimmy Fallon won't be just a guided tour of the Big Apple.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the name, this new attraction will include a lot of references to NBC's The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and will feature cameos from Tonight Show announcer Steve Higgins as well as house band The Roots (who also scored the attraction). Jimmy Fallon will also be recalling some of the Tonight Show’s most classic bits during the attraction, including “Ew” with Sara and “Tight Pants” with Jimmy Fallon. You can check out the behind-the-scenes video below, which includes a few quick clips of Jimmy Fallon in action while the film portion of this new attraction is being filmed...
