1. Disney’s Animal Kingdom gets operating hours adjustment
After a summer of nighttime fun at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the park has confirmed that it will be switching to a variable schedule this fall once the Jungle Book: Alive With Magic show concludes its run next month. According to Disney’s official operating hours site, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will close as early a 6:00PM some nights this fall. Though hours can change at any time, we’d imagine that Disney will continue to close this park early at least some of the time to save on operating costs as well as have extra time to test the long-delayed Rivers of Light show.
2. Storm Struck and The Sum of All Thrills confirmed to be closing next month
It has been confirmed that next month, on September 14th, both The Sum of All Thrills as well as Storm Struck will be closed permanently. Now as you may recall, that leaves only the recently-opened Colortopia exhibit still in operation inside Innoventions. And even though we expect this exhibit to stick around a little bit longer, inside sources suggest that Disney will not be renewing their contract with Colortopia sponsor Glidden, and will be closing this exhibit, as well as the rest of Innoventions East, at some future date.
3. Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster gets pre-show edit
In one of the sillier updates we’ve ever posted here, it has been confirmed that after 17 years Disney has removed an obscene gesture from the pre-show of the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster by digitally replacing frontman Steven Tyler’s hand. You can see a before and after comparison here.
4. Black-ish to film at Disney’s Animal Kingdom next week
ABC series Black-ish will film on location at Disney’s Animal Kingdom next week on August 23 and 25th. While guest impact is expected to be minimal, during filming the Dawa Bar and Tamu Tamu Refreshments dining areas will not be open until late afternoon. Additionally, much of the in-park entertainment will be moved around to make way for filming.
