This week at Walt Disney World, we prepare to say goodbye to two attractions and we say hello to a new princess. Plus, new discounts debut just in time for fall visitors to take advantage of!
Outside Walt Disney World, we have a massive Halloween Horror Nigths update from Universal Studios Florida, plus a beloved Star Wars event returns to LEGOLAND Florida.
1. The Jungle Book: Alive with Magic to officially end on September 5th
Disney has confirmed that temporary show The Jungle Book: Alive With Magic will be coming to an end next month, with its final performance scheduled for September 5th, 2016. After this date, Disney’s Animal Kingdom will switch to a variable schedule, closing as early as 9:00PM some nights this fall. However, nighttime attractions, including Tree of Life: Awakenings, the Harambe Street Parti and the after dark version of Kilimanjaro Safaris will remain.
Unfortunately, we still don’t have an opening date for Rivers of Light, but the good news here is that Disney has resumed testing both during and after park hours, so hopefully we’ll get an update on this much-anticipated nighttime spectacular soon.
2. The Main Street Electrical Parade leaving October 9th
After bouncing back and forth between the Magic Kingdom and Disneyland several times over the past four decades, this over forty year old parade will be making one last pilgrimage to Disneyland this fall before being retired forever on an unspecified date. Guests who want to see this parade one last time at Walt Disney World, will have to move fast as Disney has confirmed that the Main Street Electrical Parade will end its run at Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom permanently in just a few weeks on October 9, after which it will be packed up and shipped to Disneyland for a late fall re-debut.
3. Princess Elena’s Royal Welcome debuts at the Magic Kingdom
This week Princess Elena of Avalor was officially welcomed to the Magic Kingdom by Cinderella and Prince Charming in front of the Cinderella Castle. In case you missed it, you can catch the video recap above, or check out the show yourself as it will be running for the next few weeks before Mickey’s Royal Friendship Faire. You can check here for showtimes.
4. Night of Joy Fields of Joy and FanFest annoucned
For the first time ever, this year’s Night of Joy event will be held at the ESPN Wide World of Sports venue, which will bring a number of new entertainment options:
Fields of Joy: A sports challenge area that will allow attendees to engage in friendly matches of soccer, football and baseball.
FanFest: An area at the Jostens Center which will allow guests to play video games, take part in 60 second challenges, explore an Imagination Playground and play oversized versions of popular games such as foosball, connect four and chess. On Saturday, this area will also play host to a special question and answer sessions with some of the artists appearing at Night of Joy. Mickey and Minnie Mouse, along with some of their friends, will also be on hand for meet and greets between 5:00PM to 11:00PM at this venue on both nights.
