Late last week Walt Disney World quietly opened the AbracadaBar at Disney’s BoardWalk. This new watering hole is owned and operated by Disney, and continues the resort’s recent tradition of opening interesting and lavish bars around the property that have a strong theme and storyline (like Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto and the Indiana Jones-inspired Jock Lindsey’s Hangar Bar). If you are planning on grabbing something to drink at this new establishment, there are a few things you should know before you go.
1. The experience is truly magical
Like other Disney watering holes, the AbracadaBar has a rich backstory. This new bar is designed to transport guests back to the so-called Golden Age of Magic in the early 20th century, by giving them the chance to step inside a what is being called a "secret stomping ground for famous touring magicians, local boardwalk illusionists and the loveliest magician’s assistants of the day". However, in true Disney fashion, there is more to this lounge then meets the eye!
According to the official story, this location has been sitting vacant for nearly 70 years after an incident where every single magician in the lounge vanished under mysterious circumstances one fateful night, leaving behind their magical props and tricks for new guests to discover.
True to the story, from the moment you enter the AbracadaBar, you are instantly immersed in a world that feels a lot like the first half of 20th century. The décor is lavishly themed, with glittering golden-patterned wallpaper, richly detailed wood furniture, and even “magical” mirrors that must be seen to be believed.
However, beyond the décor, there are a number of special effects and details at the AbracadaBar that help to bring the story behind this establishment to life. Guests who take a stroll around this establishment will discover that there are some interesting magical artifacts hidden in plain sight, framed newspaper clippings that expand on the story of the bar, and even a special effect that happens every hour at the thirteen minute mark (keep an eye on the magicians in the posters around the bar!)
While this bar is a lot quieter than others on property and doesn’t have a lot of in-your-face effects (we’re looking at you Trader Sam’s!), the AbracadaBar has a quiet elegance that feels truly magical without being cheesy or tacky.
2. You’ll find plenty of Disney references
Of course, it wouldn’t be a Disney bar without some clever nods to classic Disney properties. Eagle eyed guests who examine the various props around the bar will see clever nods to classic Disney films like Aladdin, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, and Alice in Wonderland, as well as attractions like the Enchanted Tiki Room.
