2016 may not even be at the half way mark yet, but it has already been a roller coaster for Disney Vacation Club Members. As this year is the 25th anniversary of Disney Vacation Club, a number of special events and limited time merchandise have already delighted members this year, and Disney has promised that even more fun is on the way (more on that in a moment!). However, the joy that this milestone year has brought has been tempered with some disappointment with a widely condemned policy change regarding perk availability for Disney Vacation Club members who purchase points via the resale market.

Though not every bit of Disney Vacation Club news thus far in 2016 has been good, some new developments were announced this week that are pretty exciting, including one we have been waiting more than a year for….

1. Introducing the Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney's Wilderness Lodge

Disney Vacation Club finally announced this week that its newest development at the Wilderness Lodge Resort would be officially named the Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney's Wilderness Lodge. When complete, this development will include over two dozen single-family cabins that will be constructed in the formerly forested area next to the waterfront, potentially with some views of the Magic Kingdom.

These Disney Vacation Club cabins are currently under construction and while Disney has yet to reveal when work on these individual units is expected to finish, based on permits as well as visible progress around the resort, it seems likely that Disney Vacation Club members will be able to reserve a room in these new cabins sometime next year.

In addition to the now-confirmed name for the brand new villas and cabins, the original Disney Vacation Club property at Wilderness Lodge will also be getting a new name as well, and will be changing from the simplistic Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge to the more specific Boulder Ridge Villas at Disney's Wilderness Lodge to reflect the split between this property and the new one.

In addition to the new names, this week it was also confirmed that the redesigned Hidden Springs Pool area will also be getting a new moniker, but it looks like we'll have to wait a little while to find out what that new name will be as details about this specific change were not immediately made available.

2. The Disney Vacation Club Lounge gets an opening date next month

Earlier this year it was announced that the first official in-park Disney Vacation Club lounge would welcome Disney Vacation Club members later this year at Epcot's Imagination pavilion in the formerly-abandoned ImageWorks second floor. And while Disney missed the original spring 2016 target launch date for this lounge, construction is almost complete on this new lounge, and it has been confirmed that Disney Vacation Club members will finally be able to enjoy this brand new amenity beginning next month, on June 9th.

Inside this lounge, Disney Vacation Club members will be able to kick back and relax with comfortable seating, complimentary soft drinks, dedicated Disney Vacation Club member Wi-Fi, device charging stations, access to helpful Member Services Advisors and will even be able to use computers with printers. Specific hours of operation have not been made available, but we'd imagine that this lounge will likely be open during Future World's operating hours.
