1. Rivers of Light (and all nighttime entertainment for Disney's Animal Kingdom) officially delayed
The biggest news out of Walt Disney World this week was without a doubt the confirmation that the Rivers of Light nightly spectacular, along with all of the other nighttime attractions and shows that Disney’s Animal Kingdom had planned to launch on April 22nd, would actually not be opening this spring as originally scheduled. Disney has declined to offer a new opening window for any of these evening attractions, but they have promised an “update” in mid-May with more information about when guests can expect to experience these new attractions. You can read more about this delay (and why we think it may have happened in the first place) here.
2. Ample Hills Creamery coming to Disney’s BoardWalk
Boutique ice cream shop Ample Hills Creamery will open its first location outside of New York City at Disney’s BoardWalk this spring in the spot formerly occupied by Seashore Sweets. This new location will have many of this popular creamery’s signature flavors available at launch, including Ooey Gooey Butter Cake, Coffee Toffee Coffee, Malty Salty Pretzel Punch, and Cotton Candy. Ample Hills Creamery has also confirmed that they are working on a Walt Disney World exclusive flavor as well which has yet to be announced.
3. New FastPass+ features debut today across Walt Disney World
Beginning today, a number of FastPass+ improvements will be in effect at Walt Disney World, including the ability to book additional FastPass+ reservations right from your smartphone, make same-day FastPass+ reservations at other parks, and search for available FastPass+ reservations by time as well as attraction name. You can read all about these new improvements here.
4. New children's water play area opens at Port Orleans Resort
Just in time for spring, a new children's water play area has opened near the Doubloon Lagoon pool at the Port Orleans Resort. This new Mardi Gras themed play area has plenty of fun water slides, water cannons, and fountains that are just right for guests 48 inches and under.
5. ¡Viva Coronado Springs Fiesta! weekly event announced
Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort will host a new weekly special event this month called ¡Viva Coronado Springs Fiesta! that will happen every week. Starting at noon every Wednesday, kids can participate in a special Three Caballeros parade and then take part in themed activities including crafts and photo ops. Special Mexican treats will also be available for sale during the event at a special food cart in the lobby.
6. Celebrate Africa event to take place next Wednesday at Animal Kingdom Lodge
Next Wednesday, Disney's Animal Kingdom Lodge will also be hosting a special event as well. Celebrate Africa will take place from 10:00-11:00AM in the Jambo House and will help young guests explore African culture with music, dancing, face-painting and many other fun, hands-on and educational activities. Those wanting to attend this event do not need to be staying at this resort in order to enjoy all of these special activities, and can join in the fun with no problem.
