2016 is going to be a good year at Walk Disney World, with at least half a dozen new attractions opening across the resort in the next six months. However, this year is going to be even better for DVC members, as 2016 marks the 25th anniversary of the vacation timeshare program, and Disney is celebrating this milestone in grand fashion all around the resort. If you are already a DVC member, or are thinking about joining this year, here’s all the extra perks, events and special deals that you will be able to enjoy in 2016.

1. First-ever Disney Vacation Club Member Lounge to open this spring at Epcot

Though there is no shortage of business lounges at Epcot, it looks like this park will be getting one more “members only” area later this year, when the first official DVC lounge welcomes Disney Vacation Club members later this year at the Imagination pavilion. Though the actual location within the Imagination pavilion hasn’t been made official yet, this new lounge will likely be constructed in the abandoned ImageWorks second floor, which means all of those creepy abandoned attraction remnants that have been up there for over a decade will finally be packed up and either put in storage or headed for the garbage heap.

Though this is sad news for those of us holding out hope that the upstairs ImageWorks space might one day be refurbished and reopened for the general parkgoer to experience once more, at least Disney is finally doing something with this area, instead of just letting it sit there and rot, like some other abandoned attractions.

Once this lounge opens later this year, DVC members will be able to kick back and relax with comfortable seating, complimentary soft drinks, dedicated DVC member Wi-Fi, device charging stations, access to helpful Member Services Advisors and will even be able to use computers with printers. Though we don’t have a specific opening date for this new lounge yet, Disney has said that they are aiming to open this first-ever Disney Vacation Club lounge this spring.

2. 25th anniversary photo op

Special photo opportunity kiosks celebrating the 25th anniversary of DVC will be popping up all around Walt Disney World's DVC resorts in 2016. Members who stop by one of these kiosks will be able to capture fun family photos with unique backdrops. And best of all guests who take advantage of this photo opp area will be able to take home a free print-out photo keepsake. Guests wanting to take advantage of this new free perk will be able to find these photo kiosks at the Disney Vacation Club Resort Community Halls at the following Walt Disney World hotels:

Bay Lake Tower at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village

Disney’s BoardWalk Villas

Disney’s Old Key West Resort

Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa

Does this mean DVC is doing really well and thanking their customers, or does it mean that DVC is hurting and trying to sell more time shares by offering perks?

It's about time. The DVC, to me, is special and should be treated as such. I think there needs to be more of these type of events throughout the year, so more members have an opportunity to try to make one. Only 4 or so a year....demand will certainly out way the supply. Trying to get a reservation or ticket will be quite difficult.

It's awesome that they are offering these things for their 25th anniversary. It would have been nice to see them also at The Grand Californian or Aulani. I'm bias as I own at both of those locations.

This is terrific, and worth a grand celebration! My one comment with regards to the non-magical factor would be for us on the West Coast... we can't always get to the Magic Kingdom area, hence our membership at Grand California and Aulani. Feeling just a wee bit left out.
