4 Changes Coming to Walt Disney World's Special Events in 2016

3. Expect more upcharges

One theme that we noticed in 2015 was Disney's explosion of upcharge events. Though premium experiences and packages have been around for quite some time, 2015 brought several new upcahrge experiences including Ferrytale Wishes: A Fireworks Dessert Cruise, Club Villain, The Merry and Bright Dinner Reception, The Tomorrowland Terrace Dessert Party, the Happy HalloWishes Desert Party and more.

Though you might not think that there are any more possible ways for Disney to sell guests cupcakes and cocoa, you probbaly aren't giving them enough credit. Disney continues to introduce upcharge after upcharge, and with Disney's Animal Kingdom debuting Rivers of Light early next year, we would be very surprised if there wasn't a dessert party or dinner event (packaged with guaranteed seating, naturally) introduced alongside this new show.

4. The future of some events is still being decided

Though we know for a fact that seasonal events like The Epcot Food and Wine Festival and Epcot's Holidays Around the World will all be returning in 2016, the future is less clear in regards to other events. Chief among the events in doubt is Frozen Summer Fun, which has brought crowds to Disney's Hollywood Studios for the past two years. Though this event has prooven popular in the past, enthusiasm for For Frozen has cooled off in recent months (pun intended), and with Norway's Frozen transformation, Disney may see this event as superfluous and simply cancel it (much like they did with Star Wars Weekends).

Of course, if Frozen Summer Fun is indeed destined for the chopping block, it leaves Disney's Hollywood Studios without a summertime event for the first time in many years. Could the ill-fated Rock Your Summer Side event (which was cancelled after just one week back in 2013 to make room for Frozen Summer Fun) make a return in 2016 under a new name? It seems possible, but a lot will depend on what is happening with Star Wars Land at that time, as the project is rumored to be breaking ground right after the holiday season is over.

Though most would agree that Walt Disney World's world-class attractions are the biggest draw for most guests, amazing events help keep loyal park visitors coming back year after year. Though the past two years have brought an unfortunate number of events to their end, hopefully there are some more amazing events just around the corner.
