6. Universal announces expansion for Cabana Bay Beach Resort
Universal Orlando Resort announced plans this week to add two new towers, with 400 additional guest rooms between them, to the south end of the existing Cabana Bay Beach Resort. Set to open in 2017, some of these rooms will have amazing views of the Volcano Bay water park. With this newest project, plus Lowe's Sapphire Falls, Universal Orlando Resort will be up to nearly 6000 rooms on-property. Though that is still a far cry from the 30,000 rooms that are on property at Walt Disney World, it does help Universal get closer to their long-range goal of 10,000 rooms overall.
