The 11 BIG Updates From Walt Disney World (and Beyond) This Week (August 16-22, 2015)

6. The Purge returns to Halloween Horror Nights

One of the most popular features at last year’s Halloween Horror Nights was a scarezone based on The Purge, so it should come as no surprise that this property will be back at this year’s event. However, instead of terrorizing the streets The Purge will be featured in its own house at this year's event.  You can check out a teaser clip below

7. NBA City restaurant closes for good

The NBA City restaurant has officially closed for good at Universal CityWalk. Though NBA fans may be sad to see this establishment go, a new NBA-themed restaurant will be coming to the spot formerly occupied by DisneyQuest at Disney Springs. Though we don’t have a date yet, most believe that this new restaurant will open sometime in late 2016 or 2017. And although CityWalk is down a restaurant, the nearby NBC Sports Grill and Brew is projected to open in just a few more weeks!

8. Busch Gardens summer event extended an additional week

Summer can’t last forever, but Busch Gardens is trying to squeeze every drop of golden sun out of this season, extending its Summer Nights event for just one more weekend. Guests will now be able to enjoy extended hours, special entertainment (including a lip sync battle) as well as nightly fireworks shows during the upcoming Labor Day weekend, Sept. 5-7. Though we're sure Busch Gardens would like to offer this event for even longer, this upcoming week will be the absolute last time guests will be able to enjoy the special Summer Nights entertainment this year.

9. First pieces of Mako track arrive at SeaWorld

Manufacturing has finished for SeaWorld's newest roller coaster, Mako (which you can read more about here), and the pieces of this new attraction are now en route to the park for construction. The first piece of track arrived earlier this week, and SeaWorld Orlando is encouraging fans to keep their eyes peeled for new pieces of track arriving daily, and to document their findings on Twitter and Facebook using #MakoSighting.

10. Mama’s Pretzel Kitchen opens at SeaWorld Orlando

SeaWorld Orlando has opened a new snack location near Shamu stadium serving unique gourmet-style pretzels. Mama’s Pretzel Kitchen serves traditional soft pretzels, pizza pretzels, meatball pretzels and even bacon pretzels. In addition to snacks, this location also serves a variety of local and seasonal craft beers, frozen cocktails, wines and beverages.

11. Busch Gardens offers photo opp vote for Howl-O-Scream 2015

Back at Busch Gardens, the park has announced that this year's Howl-O-Scream will have a blast from the past character photo opportunity, but in an interesting development the park is letting Facebook fans cast their vote to see which character makes the cut. Choices available for voting include the Death Jockey from Howl-O-Scream 2007, the Raven Twins from Howl-O-Scream 2008, or the Trickster from Howl-O-Scream 2012. Voting lasts from now through September 20.
