As you may know, Disney is holding it's bi-annual D23 event this weekend. And while we're excited to hear tons of new things about Disney's animated properties, Marvel films and of course the ever-expanding Star Wars universe, many are expecting Disney to make some HUGE announcements regarding their North American theme parks. Though there's no way to be 100% certain of what Disney will announce at this year's event, here is our wish list of announcements for this year (along with our best guesses about how probable we think each announcement is). We'll start off with the most obvious announcement...
1. The total reboot of Disney’s Hollywood Studios gets official
Unless Disney is pulling the world's cruelest prank on us, we're expecting to hear the first details about the future of the park currently known as Disney's Hollywood Studios, including general expansion plans, confirmation of Toy Story Playland, a broad overview of Star Wars Land, and of course, the unveiling of the park's new name.
Although we probably won't get exact details about opening dates or even specific attractions, we expect Disney to finally get the ball rolling on the Disney's Hollywood Studios reboot this weekend and give frustrated fans of this park (who have dealt with closure after closure for the past 18 months) something positive to look forward to.
2. An opening date for Pandora: The World of Avatar
Pandora: The World of Avatar has been in development and under construction for more than half a decade, and fans have felt a little annoyed that there is still no official opening date for this much-hyped expansion. Interestingly, it has been confirmed that this new land will have a presence as D23 2015, and while we could see something as simple as further details about this new land's two attractions, we'd bet that Disney will finally commit to an opening date at this year's D23 event. No whether or not that date is anywhere near the projected 2017 opening target is still a mystery...
3. More information about Frozen Royal Sommerhus
Though we know pretty much everything there is to know about the new Frozen Ever After ride, one area of the Frozen-ification of Norway that has been shrouded in mystery thus far is the Royal Sommerhus Frozen meet and greet. While this attraction could just be a regular ol’ meet and greet, the 13,000 square foot building size would make it the largest meet and greet on property, which makes us think that there may be something more to this attraction than a simple Princess Fairytale Hall-style meet and greet. Considering construction has been underway on this attraction for several months and we are less than a year away from its official opening date, D23 would be the perfect place to flesh out details about this attraction and get guests excited to visit next year.
