Summer has finally arrived at Walt Disney World! And while 2015 isn’t going to be as exciting as 2016, there are still plenty of amazing new things you can check out around Walt Disney World this month. While some of these changes are permanent, a few are only sticking around for a limited time, so if you want to check all of them out, you’ll have to head out to Walt Disney World very soon!
1. Check out the refurbished Great Movie Ride
Though we’ve known about changes coming to The Great Movie Ride for awhile now, Walt Disney World surprised us all last week when the changes to the ride went live with no advance notice. While all of the ride’s core set pieces remain unchanged, several modifications have been made that alter the attraction in some surprising ways.
From the moment guests step into the interior queue, they will be able to see some notable differences, as the former pre-show trailer collection has been replaced by a TCM film with personality Robert Osborne providing commentary.
However, it's after guests board the ride that they’ll also notice the ride's biggest change: a lot less spieling. Though some parts of The Great Movie Ride have always been pre-recorded, the ride has switched from mostly live to to mostly recorded audio accompanying the various animatronic film scenes (provided again by TCM personality Robert Osborne) with spielers only providing a few off-color remarks during the ride and of course acting out the gangster and temple scenes.
Finally, the last big change is the last movie montage scene, which has been completely re-cut, with new clips from films like Frozen, Tangled, The Matrix, Guardians of the Galaxy and more.
Though these changes might be a little jarring at first (especially the changes to the ride spiel), most agree that they are for the better and the final film at the end is much improved. Even though there are still several aspects of The Great Movie Ride that need updating, these latest changes are definitely a positive development and are worth checking out, even if you've ridden The Great Movie Ride dozens of times before in the past.
2. Catch an Inside Out sneak peek
Though the Tomorrowland preview has ended, the Magic Eye Theater at Epcot’s Imagination Pavilion is now playing host to another preview, this time for Pixar’s Inside Out. However, this preview is for this month only, as My Disney Experience has Captain EO returning to this theater July 18th.
Though we’ve been a little skeptical in the past about this original attraction returning to this location, until we hear something different it seems safe to assume that Captain EO and his rag tag bunch of misfits will indeed be back to save the galaxy again next month.
