Summer is just around the corner, and families around the world are preparing for a relaxing vacation to Walt Disney World during its longest "busy" season. Though there are plenty of projects in the works for 2016 and 2017 (with Epcot's Frozen ride and Pandora: The World of Avatar chief among them) Summer 2015 does indeed bring several new things to do to the resort, including character experiences, limited time events, and even a brand new expanded land for guests to explore!
If you are planning a trip to Walt Disney World this summer, here are ten amazing new things that have either opened in recent weeks (in anticipation of the upcoming season) or are scheduled to open in the next 30 days.
1. Explore Harambe Market
Arguably the biggest development hitting Walt Disney World this summer is the opening of an all-new expansion of the Harambe area at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Though a food court will take up the majority of this new area, Harambe marketplace will also feature several new open air shops that will offer a variety of rotating merchandise. You can check out more details about this new area here. Though Harambe Marketplace isn’t open quite yet, it will be welcoming its guests later this month, just in time for summer to get started!
2. Check out new things to do at the second annual Frozen Summer Fun
Last year’s Frozen Summer Fun was a smashing success for Disney’s Hollywood Studios, helping to keep guests flowing to a park that has been going through quite the transitional period. And like all good things, Disney has decided that Frozen Summer Fun needed a sequel. Though this year will many of the same events as last year, including the nightly Frozen-themed fireworks, 2015 will see the introduction of the Olaf’s Summer Cool Down show to the event stage for a little fun with everyone “In Summer.”
Though the Frozen Royal Welcome parade on Hollywood Blvd isn’t exactly new, this year’s processional will feature a brand new float inspired by Elsa’s ice palace. The parade will also run twice daily, which will help alleviate the early morning congestion that plagued guests at last year’s event.
3. Take in a new show at Epcot
Over the past year Epcot has been slowly rolling out a number of new shows around the World Showcase, and this summer will see one more added to the lineup. Located in the American pavilion, the all-new American Music Machine show will feature a five-member contemporary a cappella group performing popular songs by American artists at the America Gardens Theatre. After a test period later this month, guests at Epcot can check out American Music Machine every Wednesday-Sunday beginning May 27. And don’t worry Voices of Liberty fans: this classic group will still perform at the America Gardens Theater on Mondays and Tuesdays.
4. Enjoy the new retail shops at Disney Springs
Disney Springs has been opening some amazing new stores recently, with its most recent “wave” of openings including a jewelry store, a store dedicated to all things Marvel and more. To see everything that has been added just in time for summer, click here.
5. Grab a meal (and take a ride on an Amphicar) at The BOATHOUSE
Last Month Walt Disney World welcomed one of its most anticipated new restaurants ever to Disney Springs. The BOATHOUSE has dawn some criticism online for its pricey menu, but this restaurant offers so much more than food, with amphicars, desert tours, and even an extensive bar area to check out, there’s something for everyone to see at this new dining location.
