Six Flags has unveiled plans for new attractions in its parks, and there’s plenty for thrill ride fans to be excited about. In addition to two new Batman rides, Six Flags parks across America will see the conversion of two iconic wooden roller coasters into hybrid steel coasters, one of which will be record-breaking!
All of these rides are currently in development/construction and are on track for an opening for summer 2015
1. Batman: The Ride (Six Flags Fiesta Texas)
The most exciting of Six Flags’ announcements was Batman: The Ride, which is a 120-foot-tall 4-D “free-fly” wing coaster that allows riders to tilt and spin on either side of a wing-style vehicle. The ride has an innovative elevator-style lift hill, and then catapults riders forward through reverse inversions and beyond-ninety-degree drops.
The ride also employs technology to give riders a feeling of “true weightlessness” according to Six Flags president Martin Bozer, who was on hand for the ride announcement. You can check out a virtual on-ride video above.
2. Twisted Colossus (Six Flags Magic Mountain)
Recently closed Colossus will be springing back to life in 2015 in the form of Twisted Colossus, a new hybrid steel version of the beloved coaster. The ride will reach 4,990 feet once completed and will be the world’s longest hybrid coaster.
Thanks to its new steel elements, Twisted Colossus will feature 18 airtime hills, two lift hills, two 80-degree drops, two zero-G roll inversions and a new “high five” element that will be a first for a hybrid coaster. You can see more in the virtual ride video above.
